W elcome to Marine Corps Logistics Base, Albany, home to Headquarters, Marine Corps Logistics Command. We are proud to be one of the 'Greenest' military installations in the Department of the Navy and a place where the use of green technology has become our signature.

Located in Southwest Georgia, we are just a few hours from some of Georgia's and Florida's most beautiful beaches and home to nearly 5,000 military and civilian personnel. MCLB occupies approximately 3,600 acres of land in Dougherty County.

Commissioned in 1952, MCLB Albany was originally called the Marine Corps Depot of Supplies. Since then, the base has gone through a number of name changes, finally settling on Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany in 1978.

Our mission is to provide facilities, infrastructure and a range of tailored support services enabling supported commands aboard the installation to accomplish their assigned missions. The mission of Logistics Command is to provide worldwide, integrated logistics/supply chain and distribution management, maintenance management, and strategic prepositioning capability in support of the operating forces and other supported units to maximize their readiness and sustainability.

As the largest employer in the region, this installation is a vital asset to the Marine Corps, the Department of Defense and the nation. MCLB Albany is also home to more than 40 tenants, to include Maintenance Center Albany, a subordinate command of Logistics Command. MCA personnel repair, rebuild and modify all types of Marines Corps ground combat, combat support and combat service support equipment, all of which is critical to the Marine Corps' efforts around the world and in current Overseas Contingency Operations.

MCA has provided numerous innovative methods for minimizing combat threats, such as the development of the Panama City mine roller; the Mobile Trauma Bay, which brings the operating room to the battlefield; and installing additional armor on combat vehicles to protect service members from roadside improvised explosive devices and other battlefield hazards.

MCLB Albany is the recipient of multiple energy and safety awards, thanks to the hardworking Marines and civilian-Marines. Awards include the 2010 Secretary of the Navy Energy and Water Management Award's Gold Level of Achievement for its outstanding energy program and the 2011 Secretary of the Navy Energy and Water Management Award in the Marine Corps Small Shore category.

We have signed on to become the first employer in the Albany area to partner with the Clean Air Campaign as part of a statewide strategic initiative to mitigate air pollution by reducing employee commute trips.

On Sept. 23, 2011, we celebrated the completion of the first landfill gas-to-energy project in the Department of the Navy, beginning the historic production of 1.9 megawatts of renewable electric power and steam by burning landfill gas collected from a nearby landfill. This landfill gas-to-energy project will not only help us reduce our greenhouse gas emissions and our energy intensity, but will also increase our renewable energies and energy security, saving $1.8 million annually in energy costs.

One of the best reasons to enjoy being stationed here is the wonderful community around us and the generous support they give to the men and women in uniform who live and work here. We are blessed to have the support of the surrounding counties and are proud to be a part of a local area that has such a rich heritage.

Even though this is a small community, southern hospitality is a way of life and this is a place you can truly call home. Albany is home to several institutions of higher learning and a mixture of private and public schools, as well as one of the finest health care facilities in the country.

There are numerous recreational opportunities in and around Albany for you and your family to enjoy. Here you can enjoy the outdoors to your heart's delight whether it is hunting, fishing, golfing, boating or other activities.

To the dedicated men and women who live, work and recreate here, or to those who are just passing through, thank you for being a part of MCLB Albany, and welcome to the "Good Life City!"  read more...
