Drum Street on Custer Hillv Free dinners are served the last business day before payday from 5-6:30 p.m. during winter and spring. Visit www.uso.org/fortriley for dates and locations.
The dinners feed approximately 250 people each time and are open to all active service members and their families.

United Through Reading's Military Program
This program allows service members to be videotaped while reading children's books aloud before they depart or while they are home on R&R. A copy of the book, DVD and instructions, as well as information on United Through Reading, are mailed to the child and family back home. The USO supplies recording equipment, books and packaging materials. The parent or caregiver at home is encouraged to share the child's excitement by photographing or videotaping the child as the child is watching the DVD and following along with the book. The photograph or DVD can then be sent to the deployed family member, boosting the morale of the entire family. To schedule an appointment or for more information about helping with this program, contact USO Fort Riley. For more information on United Through Reading, or a list of other locations worldwide, visit www.uso.org/whatwedo/programs/unitedthroughreading

Single Service Member Homecoming Kits
The USO works with unit Family Readiness Support Assistants to provide basic toiletry items and snacks to single service members returning from deployments. Each kit contains: travel-size shampoo, soap and toothpaste, a toothbrush, non-perishable snacks and a thank you note. Units can request kits three to four months prior to redeployment. Travel-sized toiletry and non-perishable snackdonations, as well as thankyou notes, can be dropped off at the USO building anytime.

Soldier Readiness Processing Center support
Service members spend many hours prior to and following deployments taking care of all their paperworkat the Soldier Readiness Processing Center. USO volunteers and donors provide snacks, coffee and hot chocolate during these long days. Lookfor the USO banner and snackta ble at the SRP site on Custer Hill. Snacks and baked goods can be dropped off Monday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the USO building.

Warrior Transition Battalion Day Room
Warrior Transition Complex
Room 127
Bldg. 627 Warrior Road
In 2009, the USO helped open a Day Room for wounded warriors. The room is designed to provide warriors with a place to relax, watch television and play video games or musical instruments in their down time. In 2010, Comfort for America's Uniformed Services, or CAUSE, opened a Digital Entertainment Library in the Day Room. This library features hundreds of DVDs and video games for WTB service members to rent for free.

Volunteer Today
The USO is a positive environment that depends on the support of dedicated volunteers. Volunteers are needed for all USO programs and at the center itself. Spouses, veterans, retirees and community members/organizations are welcome to the USO team, as well as families, students and active duty service members.

Families: Several family friendly volunteer opportunities are available that enable parents to share the experience and importance of service with their children.

High school students may also volunteer at select USO events to help toward their educational community service requirements. Active duty service members can volunteer in their spare time to worktoward the Volunteer Service Medal and promotion points. Interested volunteers can contact the USO or the Army Community Service volunteer program for more information about volunteer service.

Special Events
The USO works to put on special events whenever possible, whether it's a Family Fun Day or an entertainer who wants to visit the installation. Details on various special events are posted at www.uso.org/fortriley.
