Welcome Letter

Updated On: 8/17/2011 1:26:53 PM
Whether this is your first time coming to Fort Hood, or you're coming back for another tour, welcome home to the Great Place.

We call this the Great Place not based upon size (although it is huge), nor the immensity of the missions we support in defense of the nation. No, Fort Hood is the Great Place because of the servicemen and women, Department of Army civilians, contract employees and all their families, who live and work at Fort Hood. It's the people who make Fort Hood great, inside its gates and off the installation in our surrounding communities. Together, we are an Army Family numbering in the hundreds of thousands.

I am amazed at the size and complexity of all that is Fort Hood. The services and support provided to Soldiers, families and civilians across the installation remain second to none. Equally, we are blessed to be surrounded by a Central Texas community that genuinely embraces us. For those of you who don't know, the business of the United States Army Garrison never stops; we are all touched by the dedication of the 5,500 garrison employees who keep Fort Hood moving in the right direction. As the Garrison Commander, I promise you that our team will continue to work diligently to better serve you, our customers, and ensure that we are meeting your needs.

Fort Hood offers state-of-the-art training facilities for our Soldiers who prepare to fight our nation's wars and a myriad of support programs for those Soldiers and their families. Just one example is our Comprehensive Soldier Fitness Training Facility, the first of its kind in the Army, designed to support the mind, body and spirit of our troops and their families. I encourage you to stop by the Comprehensive Soldier Fitness Training Facility, early and often, to see how their programs can help enrich you, and assist you in coping with Army life.

Again, welcome to the Great Place! We are glad you are here! No matter what, rest assured that your U.S. Army Garrison-Fort Hood will strive to provide standardized, effective and efficient services, facilities and infrastructure to the joint expeditionary force, its families and civilians. Thank you for the opportunity to serve you, and welcome home!

Colonel Mark Freitag
Commander, U.S. Army Garrison
