Centered in Northern California near the cities of Fairfield, Suisun City and Vacaville, Travis is located midway between Sacramento and San Francisco and is home to the 60th Air Mobility Wing, the 15th Expeditionary Mobility Task Force, the 615th Contingency Response Wing, the Air Force Reserve's 349th Air Mobility Wing, plus over 50 partner organizations. Team Travis is the largest air mobility organization in the Air Force with a versatile all-jet fleet of C-5 Galaxy, C-17A Globemaster III cargo aircraft and KC-10 Extender refueling aircraft. Team Travis crews can fly support missions anywhere in the world to fulfill its motto of being "America's First Choice."

As the "Gateway to the Pacific," Travis' primary contribution to the Department of Defense is the strategic airlift, aerial refueling and aeromedical evacuation capabilities that give American military personnel, aircraft and cargo true Global Reach. This guide is intended to familiarize you and your family with helpful information on services, housing, schools and recreational activities that are offered at Travis AFB and in the surrounding area. ARRIVAL
Travis is located off Interstate 80, approximately 45 miles northeast of San Francisco and seven miles southwest of Fairfield, California.

Automobile
If you or your family members will be arriving by automobile from either east-west traffic, I-80 traffic should exit at the Air Base Parkway turnoff in Fairfield and drive east for approximately five miles. Air Base Parkway leads directly to the base's main gate.

Commercial Airports
If you or your family will be arriving by commercial airline, most likely you will arrive at the San Francisco, Sacramento, Oakland or San Jose airports. There are no military shuttle services from Travis to these airports, but a variety of convenient door-to-door commercial shuttles and public transportation can help you get to Travis. Military Aircraft
If your arrival is by military aircraft, you will disembark at the Travis Passenger Terminal, (707) 424-1854. The terminal is serviced by public transportation, Enterprise Rent-a-Car, commercial taxi and shuttle services.

Commercial Bus
If you will be traveling by commercial bus, you will arrive at the Fairfield-Suisun City bus terminal; from here connect with the Route 2 city bus that will take passengers to Travis. AMTRAK
The AMTRAK Capitol Corridor train running from Sacramento to San Jose has six scheduled daily stops at the Fairfield-Suisun train station. Taxis and public transportation (the Route 5 to Route 2 city bus) serve the station. The city bus system also provides weekday commuter service to the Pleasant Hill station on the Bay Area Rapid Transit system (Route 40). Driving on Travis
All motor vehicles driven on Travis, including motorcycles and mopeds, must be registered within two weeks of arrival. Current state registration, proof of insurance and driver's license are required. Unless exempt, base employees who drive out-of-state registered vehicles on base are required to show proof the vehicle passes the California enhanced smog check and obtain a base decal. Check with 60 Civil Engineer Squadron, 344 Hangar Ave., Building 576, telephone (707) 424-2689 to see if your vehicle is required to have a smog check. Out-of-state registered vehicles can be smog checked at any enhanced smog check station in California. All motorcycle and moped drivers must complete a motorcycle safety course. The speed limit on base is 30 mph in commercial and industrial areas, 15 mph in base housing and community areas, and 15 mph in all parking lots unless otherwise posted. Drivers and all passengers must use properly functioning seatbelts or child restraints whenever privately owned or government vehicles are in motion. Motor-cycle or moped riders must have a helmet, eye protection and garments that cover all "skin below the chin." The security police conduct periodic checks to ensure compliance with these important safety requirements.
